After
consecutive heart-breaking losses to MIAA A Conference rivals Loyola
and Gilman, the Mount St. Joseph football team traveled to Eastern
Baltimore County, yesterday afternoon, in search of a win and a little
relief from a brutal schedule which has matched them up against most of
the top teams from both Baltimore and Washington and contributed to a
1-5 start. The Gaels took advantage, as they scored on the opening
kickoff and unloaded some frustrations during a 48-0, non-conference,
rout of host Chesapeake-BC.
Senior Jared Ricks got the show
rolling as he took the opening kick 90-yards to begin a 28-point first
quarter for the Gaels (2-5). Junior safety Rod White followed with a
10-yard fumble return for a touchdown and Ricks added a 20-yard
touchdown run to push the lead to 21-0.
Sophomore quarterback
Chris Costabile then found classmate Chris Collins for a 41-yard
touchdown pass and then opened the second quarter with a 22-yard
scoring strike to junior Quentin Jones.
By halftime the Gaels,
which led both Loyola and Gilman in the fourth quarter over the last
two weeks, had completed their scoring and accomplished their objective.
Next
week, it’s back to the rigors of the MIAA A Conference as St. Joe hosts
Georgetown Prep and the following week it will travel to Ohio to face
national power Steubenville, before closing with a home game against
Calvert Hall on November 4.
