St.
Paul’s may not be headed to the MIAA A Conference soccer playoffs, but
the Crusaders certainly have made life difficult, on numerous
occasions, for those still maintaining championship aspirations,
including John Carroll, which fell in an attempt to further its
post-season hopes with a 1-0 loss to the Crusaders, yesterday in
Brooklandville.
The game-winning score was netted by St. Paulâ??s
freshman Mike Faby, with 12 minutes remaining in the second half, off
of a cross from George Banks, and goalkeeper Peter Windsor recorded
nine saves in the shutout.
In addition to overtime losses to #1
Archbishop Curley and #3 Calvert Hall, St. Paul’s (5-12-1, 4-11-1) owns
a win over #2 McDonogh and, now, a victory over fourth-place John
Carroll (8-6-1, 7-6-1).
The Patriots remain in solid position to
make the post season, as they sit in fourth-place, but a win yesterday
would have clinched a playoff spot. With games left with Curley
(tomorrow) and Calvert Hall (Tuesday), John Carroll remains vulnerable
heading into the season’s final week.
