CALVERT HALL DOES IT AGAIN

Cardinals defeate Loyola in water polo final for their sixth consecutive title

Calvert
Hall’s MIAA water polo dynasty continues, as the Cardinals downed
Loyola in Saturday’s MIAA Championship Game, at Calvert Hall, to win
the league title for a sixth consecutive year.

The Cardinals,
fresh off another undefeated regular season in league play, opened
Saturday’s championships with a 14-7 semifinal win over McDonogh,
before scoring 14 more in the championship game against the Dons and
claiming a 14-9 win.

Senior Mike Helou led Calvert Hall with
four goals in each game, while classmate Arny Warren had six scores,
including two in the finals.  Sophomore Archie Warren also had a huge
day, scoring once against McDonogh and netting a hat-trick in the
victory over Loyola.

John Stedding also contributed four goals,
including a hat-trick in the semifinal, while senior Josh Barnes had
two of his three goals in the championship game.

The Cardinals
played a pair of goalies in each contest, as junior Dave Kaun made
seven saves in each game, while sophomore Will McLennan had a two game
total of five stops.

“It was probably our most flawless game of
the season,” said Calvert Hall head coach Don Anderson of the Loyola
game.  “I felt we had been a little flat after our big win over the
Navy Aquatic Club.  I told our guys that I felt we were the best team
but we were going to have to put some fire in our hearts if we wanted
to win this weekend.  I believe we found the fire we needed”.

Loyola,
which defeated Mount St. Joseph in the other semifinal, entered the
final with hopes of ending Calvert Hall’s dominance, after taking the
Cardinals to the wire in an 11-10 loss last week.

Calvert Hall
will now travel to Princeton, New Jersey on Saturday where it will be
the #1 seed at the Easter Prep School Championships.
