ST. PAUL’S RALLIES FOR ANOTHER OVERTIME WIN – 10-9 AGAINST CALVERT HALL

Galvin nets his second game winner

The
St. Paul’s lacrosse team loves making things interesting.  The “cardiac
kids” needed overtime again to defeat a hard-working, run and gun,
Calvert Hall team, 10-9, in a MIAA A Conference battle, yesterday on
Tullai Field in Brooklandville.

After finally jumping out to a
big lead to start a game at 5-0, early in the 2nd period, the Crusaders
seemed to simply run out of gas and enthusiasm as the Cardinals rattled
off seven unanswered goals in a furious comeback to capture a 7-5 lead
midway through the third stanza.  St. Paul’s responded to knot the
score at 7-7, only to see that tie evaporate as Calvert Hall went back
on top 9-7 with just under four minutes to play in the contest.  The
Crusiaders rallied again to tie the score at 9 with two minutes left in
the game and neither team could muster the winning goal in regulation.

In
a familiar spot, overtime, the Crusies lost the face-off but held off
the Cardinals, cleared the zone and Thomas Galvin fired home the game
winner on a overhand rocket from 10 yards.  It was Galvin’s second
game-winning, sudden victory goal of the season, the other coming
against Haverford (PA) in the season opener.

St. Paul’s was led
by Adam Johnston’s four goals.  Cliff Larkin added a goal and three
assists, while Galvin had two scores.  The Crusaders also received
single goals from Chris Clements, Tim Gaines, and Ben Sindler.  In
addition, D.J. Hessler added two assists while Sindler and Zach Linkous
each added an assist.  Goalie Stu Wheeler recorded 10 saves for the
Crusies.
