Boys’
Latin, which finished in first place during the regular season last
year in the MIAA B Conference baseball standings, only to lose two
straight at the start of the double-elimination playoff tournament,
looks as if it has designs on getting another shot at that position.
To that end, the Lakers traveled to Laurel yesterday and pounded out 10
hits and 10 runs in a 10-5 league win over two-time defending champion
St. Vincent Pallotti.
Junior Austin Knight keyed the offense
with a double and a triple and junior Josh Winter tripled. The Lakers
(4-0, 3-0) also got doubles from senior Matt Trimmer and Huntley
Mitchell.
BL took control with five runs in the top of the
second and added two more in the third and the fourth to build a 9-0
advantage. Pallotti (4-3, 2-1) answered with two in the fourth and
three more in the fifth, but it was not enough on this afternoon.
Junior
Devon Jerrard was the winning pitcher for Boys’ Latin as he started and
went five innings and senior Matt Warheim pitched the final two frames
to close out the win.
Pallotti’s only extra-base hit of the day was a double off the bat of junior catcher Kieran Flannery.
