For
four innings, second-ranked Calvert Hall and host Archbishop Curley
were locked in a pitchers dual yesterday at Curley. The visiting
Cardinals, however, erupted for four runs in the fifth and five more in
the sixth to pull away for an 11-1 MIAA A Conference baseball victory,
yesterday afternoon.
Despite the slow start the Cardinals
eventually took to the cozy confines at Curley and blasted four home
huns, as John Collingsworth, Bobby Corton, Kevin Lingerman and Drew
Burton all went deep.
Nick Caddick threw into the sixth inning
for Calvert Hall to pick up the win, as the Friars were limited to just
four base hits on the afternoon.
Sean Thompson made the start
for Curley and did job of holding down the potent Cardinal lineup until
the fifth, but was eventually tagged with the loss.
Curley has
now dropped three straight, all in league play, and is now 4-4 overall
and 0-3 in the A Conference. Calvert Hall remains unbeaten at 7-0 and
the Cardinals are 3-0 in the league.
