With
Loyola and John Carroll locked in a 3-3 tie headed to the bottom of the
ninth in their MIAA A Conference baseball match-up, yesterday at
Blakefield, junior Ryan McQuitty propelled the Dons to a 4-3 win with a
game-winning at-bat to leadoff of the bottom of the seventh.
Looking
to start a rally before darkness would suspend the game, McQuitty
jumped on a pitch in his wheel house and drove the gab in
right-centerfield for a triple and when the relay throw was mishandled
by the Patriots, McQuitty raced home with the winning run.
John
Carroll out-hit Loyola, 9-7, on the afternoon, but only managed to
score in one inning. Trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh,
John Carroll rallied to tie on a two-out, three run triple by junior
Joey Loiodice.

Kirby, who started, went even innings and came within one batter of a
complete game shutout. Kirby was also was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Senior
Ryan Zikorus picked up the win with two innings of shut
out relief.
Junior second-baseman Tom Carroll and senior outfielder Tom Cullen also contributed RBI’s for the Dons.
