Donte Greene, the Towson Catholic basketball All-American who will soon play in the Big East for Syracuse University, is competing for a spot on the U.S. Men’s U19 squad for a second straight summer and is expected to be one of the team’s key performers when it travels to Novi Sad, Serbia, July 12-22 for the FIBA U19 World Championships.
Greene is in Dallas this week competing in the Team Trials along with 17 other finalists. Last year, he and former McDonogh star DuJuan Summers, who had a sensational freshman year at Georgetown, made the squad and helped the U.S. to a tournament championship. On Monday the team will play an exhibition game against China’s senior national team where Greene, who stands 6′-10″ may match up with NBA star Yao Ming, who towers at 7′-6″. In addition, China’s Yi Jianlian, who is 6′-11″ and expected to be a top 10 selection in this year’s NBA draft, will also be on the court. The U.S. team will also play next week in the Global Games Tournament. Both the China exhibition and the Global Games Tournament will be held at Southern Methodist University. |
