The Baltimore Crabs U-19 lacrosse team, loaded with MIAA players, began their title defense of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout, with a pair of wins yesterday in Colorado.
In the opening game, the Crabs routed Midwest Elite, 15-1, as Travis Reed of Boys’ Latin led the way with three goals and D.J. Hessler of St. Paul’s scored twice. Hessler, Reed and BL’s Brett Weiss then scored twice each in the second game, as the Baltimore squad edged Team Arizona, 9-7.
St. Paul’s Chris Clements also scored a goal in each game, while Severn’s Nick Elsmo scored in the first game and then won 11-of-17 face-offs in the second game. In addition, Jared Gangle (Loyola), Brad Zink (McDonogh) and Justin Donati (St. Paul’s) all scored once in the first game.
The Crabs, led by St. Paul’s head coach Rick Brocato, have now advanced to the quarterfinals will play Idaho, today at 3:00 pm.
