JOHNSON RETURNS FROM INJURY

Former St. Paul’s pitcher Steven Johnson has returned to the roster of the Great Lakes Loons (MI), the Single A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, after spending nearly a month on the disabled list with tendinitis in his forearm.

Johnson, who has made five starts this year for the Loons, including the team’s first game ever in its new ballpark – the Dow Diamond – has made two appearances since returning, one in relief and one as a starter, and has allowed just one earned run in 4.1 innings.  For the season, Johnson is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA with 16 strikeouts and eight walks in 20 innings.

In his third season of professional baseball, Johnson was selected by the Dodgers in the 13th round of the 2005 amateur draft, after his senior season at St. Paul’s.  He struggled in the Golf Coast League later that summer, but returned in 2006 to go 5-5 with 3.89 ERA with Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League, leading the league in strikeouts (86) and finishing fifth in innings pitched (78.2).  That performance earned him a late-season call-up to Double-A Jacksonville where he made two scoreless appearances.

With Great Lakes, Johnson plays for former major league catcher Lance Parrish, who is the team’s manager.
