Vail (CO) — Brett Weiss of Boys’ Latin scored five goals, including two spectacular behind-the-back shots, and added two assists, as the Baltimore Crabs U19 lacrosse team charged into the semifinals of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout, on Thursday in Colorado, with a 19-0 quarterfinal thrashing of Idaho.
Weiss’ high school teammate Travis Reed and D.J. Hessler of St. Paul’s continued their scoring rampage with three goals each. Reed also had assists and Hessler doled out three, as the pair combined for 13 points. Severn’s Nick Elsmo two goals and an assist.
In the shutout, goalkeeper Jake Hagelin of Boys’ Latin made five saves in the first half. Matt Chriss of Gilman minded the nets in the second half, but did not see one Idaho shot, as the Crabs defense of Kevin Moriarty (Boys’ Latin), Ty Boykin (St. Paul’s), John Windsor (St. Paul’s) and Andrew Walls (Glenelg Country) dominated the Idahoans.
In addition, Elsmo and Tim Sutton (Boys’ Latin) dominated the face-offs. The Crabs will attempt to gain a spot in the championship game when the meet Team Ohio in the semifinals today, 1:00 pm (RMT). |
