GILMAN’S MILLER FINISHES SECOND IN MARYLAND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fader, Mlynarski, Albright and Mighty also finish strong

In search of his third consecutive Maryland State Junior Golf Championship, Gilman’s Brad Miller, a rising senior, came up two shots short of a three-peat this week, but his two round score of 139 (five under par) was good enough to place him second in the 83rd annual edition of the state’s top junior competition which was contested on Tuesday and Wednesday at Hampshire Greens Golf Course in Silver Spring.

Miller, an All-Metro pick this spring, was Gilman’s #1 player in 2007 and he also placed second at the 2007 MIAA Individual Stroke Play Championships.

Miller’s opening round of 69 left him two shots behind first day leader Charlie Winegardner of Calverton School.  Winegardner, however, slipped to a 73 on day two.  Unfortunately for Miller, who plays out of Baltimore Country Club, Josh Eure, a rising junior from South River who won the MPSSAA state title in the spring, followed a 70 in the opening round with a 67 on the final day, to claim the title.

Other MIAA golfers who fared well in the event were Michael Fader of
McDonogh and John Mlynarski of Saints Peter & Paul, who were both
part of a group of five golfers which tied for seventh place with a two
day total of 147.  In addition, Steven Albright of St. Paul’s and Matt
Mighty of Gilman each finished at 149 and were part of a three-way tie
for 13th place.
