by Laura Bradley Mount Carmel’s Mark Concordia scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick on Thursday to lift his team to a 1-0, overtime shutout of two-time defending champion Chapelgate in MIAA B Conference action. The victory raised Mount Carmel to 3-6 in the league, and, 11-8 overall, dropping the Yellowjackets to 9-1, and, 14-3. Following a scoreless first half, during which each team struggled with shooting opportunities, Mike Lovaas led the Yellowjacket defense. But Mt. Carmel was equally determined to keep Chapelgate off the scoreboard, resulting in two ten minute halves of sudden death overtime After being fouled during the second portion of overtime, Concordia took advantage of the opportunity to clinch the win against keeper Matt Siggins (2 saves). The Yellowjackets, nevertheless, retained their position on top of the league standings. Halftime score 0-0 |
