What’s in a name?
Plenty.
Just ask the members of Gilman’s wrestling team.
Art Modell is in the lineup, so are kids named Faust and, Mighty.
But none of the three is whom you might initially believe.
Arthur Modell is a sophomore, 171-pounder who is the grandson of the former owner of The Ravens of Baltimore.
Tommy Faust is another sophomore wrestler, down at 125, who is the first-cousin of Gilman graduate Mike Faust, a former National Preps champ and NCAA All-American.
And senior Matthew Mighty is a newcomer at 189 pounds who must rise to the challenge of a difficult schedule.
“We also have a lot of freshmen who are made up of some athletic kids,” said sixth-year coach Henry Franklin, “but they don’t necessarily have a wrestling pedigree. The kids will work hard, but they’re still earning their stripes.”
Among the Greyhounds, Faust is perhaps the most experienced, having finished fifth at the MIAAs, and, seventh at the private schools state tournament. Giancarlo Simmons (130) was eighth at states.
