HOLBROOK POSTS 354 ALL-PURPOSE YARDS AS SEVERN ROMPS OVER JOHN CARROLL, 28-12

If
John Carroll had a plan to stop Severn senior running-back Zach
Holbrook, in their MIAA B Conference cross-division football match-up
last night at Anne Arundel Community College, it didn’t work.  Holbrook
torched the Patriots for 204 yards rushing, on just 11 carries, and
finished with 354 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns to lead the
Admirals to a 28-12 win.

Holbrook began the evening with an
80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and gave Severn a 21-0 lead
when he returned a third quarter punt 90 yards for his second
touchdown.  After John Carroll got on the scoreboard late in the third
quarter, Holbrook all but iced the victory with a 68-yard touchdown
run, early in the fourth quarter.

Severn (3-4) also scored on a 33-yard pass from senior quarterback Nick Ayers to junior Taylor Burns, in the second quarter.

John
Carroll scored its points on a 25-yard pass from quarterback Sean St.
Clair to junior Brock Brooks, in the third quarter, and a five-yard run
by sophomore back Ethan Reese, in the fourth quarter.

Next
Saturday, John Carroll will host Baltimore Lutheran in a B Conference
North Division encounter, while Severn will travel to Frederick, on
Friday night, to meet St. John’s Catholic Prep in a South Division
contest.

PAGLIARO LEADS GILMAN TO A 26-7 VICTORY OVER CALVERT HALL

PAGLIARO LEADS GILMAN TO A 26-7 VICTORY OVER CALVERT HALL

Gilman
senior John Pagliaro, who rushed for 224 yards and two scores in last
week’s come-from-behind win over Mount St. Joseph, rushed for 124 yards
and a touchdown yesterday and also returned an interception 19 yards
for another score as visiting Gilman improved to 3-0 in the MIAA A
Conference with a 26-7 victory over Calvert Hall, yesterday at Paul
Angelo Russo Stadium.

Pagliaro put Gilman on top when he picked
off a first quarter pass, deep in Calvert Hall territory, and took it
into the end zone.  He followed with a 71-yard touchdown run, in the
second quarter, and senior Ben Eaton added a 21-yard scoring run as the
Greyhounds (3-2, 3-0) took a 19-0 lead into the half.

In the
third quarter, Calvert Hall mounted a drive, as it attempted to climb
back into the contest, but Gilman’s Makura Compton stepped in front of
a pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for the Greyhounds’
final score.

Calvert Hall (0-5, 0-3) finally got on the
scoreboard in the fourth quarter when quarterback Zach Blake connected
with senior Tyler Miller for a 36-yard score.

Calvert Hall will
travel to Mercersburg (PA) next Saturday, in search of its first win,
while Gilman, which opened this year with two non-conference losses,
has now won 12 straight against MIAA A Conference opponents.  The
Greyhounds will also be in Pennsylvania next week, as they go to
Cumberland Valley (PA), for a Friday night non-conference contest,
before returning home for a huge league clash with Loyola on October 20.
